My wife has a pony with a sore on its chest which is not healing and which attracts flies. The vet has seen it twice and does not seem concerned. Anything she has tried putting on will not stay on. Any ideas, please?

Get some stuff called Cut Heal - it comes in either a dab on liquid or an aerosol spray and heals from the inside out leaving no scar. It is brilliant stuff and you can use it on dogs or other animals.

An old remedy that I have seen used is to use hydrogen peroxide - you 'throw' it on to the wound from a dish and it fizzes up, thus displacing the oxygen or something like that) and allows the wound to heal. Try looking up hydrogen peroxide and you will find uses for it.
Cut Heal is available from most saddlers, about 7 or 8 for the spray.

Taken from the hydrogen peroxide site:
Other Uses -

First Aid: Spray a 3% Hydrogen Peroxide Solution DIRECTLY and LIBERALLY on Abrasions, Cuts, Open Injuries and/or Wounds as a Disinfectant.

hi try using camrosa cream its only available mail order but its really good stuff. my horse had some proud flesh after a kick and the camrosa cream worked wonders and now you can barely see it

Thanks for your help everyone. I'm quite new on this spot, and wife was took a little bit of persuasion to look at your helpful suggestions...I think you may be asked more henceforth!

Oddly enough, honey is a very effective 'ointment' for wounds on horses - cuts respond very well to it, we've used it quite frequently on ours. Use an organically produced one rather than a 'mass produced' brand and it does wonders cheers
I would not reccomend honey (even organic) in this weather, as it will attract more flies.

Cut Heal is great, or if you can get some from the vet try demobion (a small tube will do and its expensive)
i know what it could be!! the sore that wont heal...is it a patch? my pony used to suffer with this in summer.it turned out it was an allergy to creosote on the stables and wood fencing.i used to put savlon on it then cover it thickly with fly rpellent the gel form.hope this helps!!
