are these not milk spots? my daughter gets them when she's eaten too much choccy

I have heard them called 'butter' spots too. I was told they are a sign of too much fat in the diet. Not sure whether this is the case though.

Question Author
they are not spots, they are under the skin and only really can be seen when the skin is pulled tight.

I would agree that they are not 'spots' as such. They feel quite hard if these are the things I am thinking of and the stuff that comes out is almost solid.

(Nice subject, eh!)

My sister had these. Her GP told her to sterilise a very thin needle and 'lift' them out. Hope this helps x
That's just what I used to do when I had them! I daren't say that before in case someone told me that I shouldn't have done such a thing!!
Question Author
when i have done that, it is white liquid, not a lump that comes out. they are not like blackhead substance
The ones you get from high cholestrerol are called xanthelasma and are usually flat and yellowy.Like this ...anybody squeamy look away now...

Just off to look in the mirror Shaney!!!............... back in a mo.............
.............no, just large black bags........wish I'd never looked!!!!

(my moustache isn't quite as bad as that one either!)

Sorry Joko, I divert!

Question Author

ooh, no, they aren't that bad! ...yet?

you wouldn't notice them if you looked at me just if i pointed them out and you looked close up.

perhaps if i leave them alone for a few years thats how they'll get

imagine sticking a pin in that one! bleurgh!

Question Author

thing is, i am a vegetarian and don't eat a lot of junk food so how can i have got high cholesterol??

i know other foods such as cheese, cream etc can cause it but surely i'd have to be stuffing them down my throat - i am 5'2" and weigh 10stone, so i'm not fat or anything

Funnily enough you don't have to eat a load of fatty food to have high cholesterol. A friend of mine who is rake thin and eats bean shoots and such like has high cholesterol. Her husband who stuffs his face with chips and such has normal levels. It can be inherited. To put your mind at rest ,why not see your GP and have a test.I have just spent three months losing over two stone in weight and eating sensibly to be told my cholesterol is one point too high and I don't have any of this gunge round my eyes either !!

I still think what you have sound like 'milia'. I have just read that they are also common around the lips. I have also found this

However, if you are concerned then I would talk to your GP about it next time you go, as Shaney suggests.

Question Author

does sound like milia, as i do use a lot of moisturisers, though the lips ones aren't on the 'vermillion border' they are more on the underside - you can't see them at all when my mouth is closed.

think i'll mention it to my doc next time i go for something else anyway.

thanks all for your help

Hi Joko - Have just seen this thread from last night - I had lots of these Milias when I was a teenager - I had the largest ones removed by Electrolysis which is fairly painful and never to be done around the time of your period as it is excrutiating then. As I have got older and become a vegan - I also eat no wheat or dairy products, they seem to have gone. I also use nivea moisturiser so I don't know if that helps. I did once try to remove some myself with a needle, but it leaves a horrible mark so be very careful if you do this. Amara xx
could they be mybonium cysts

Funnily enough, mine disappeared when I stopped eating dairy products - perhaps that's why they are called 'milk', 'butter' spots, etc.
