When I had my hysterectomy the hospital had a support group.

I didn't feel the need for it though. It was the best thing I ever did. I had only a few days of discomfort after the operation, was home within 4 days and haven't looked back.

I hope your mum finds it such a straightforward experience.

There are lots of Support Groups on line, this being one of them. Hope it helps & wish your Mum well.

Nothing to be worried about. I had one getting on for twenty years ago and if she is suffering with fibroids and heavy bleeding and does not want anymore children then all I can say is, that it is the best thing to do !! It can be slightly painful afterwards for a couple of days. The pain is a bit like labour pain. You can feel a bit emotional but I didn't. You have to be positive ..it's a new lease of life. I had three months off work afterwards and as long as she rests and eases herself back into normal activity there should be no problem. In other words ..no shifting grand pianos around for a while !!
You don't say if it's a full hysterectomy or not. If it is she may experience early menopause symptoms. If they leave the ovaries ..which they did with me then it's a while before that kicks in.
Wish your Mum all the best and tell her not to worry..the hospital staff are very supportive .
My mum had one about 3 years ago aged only 36 and I was really worried about her but it was fine. She was in a bit of pain for a couple of days but that was it really. It's the best thing she's ever done she says and has never felt better. It is scary but she'll be fine :)

my mum has just had one and hit her 6 weeks yesterday, to me she already seems a different woman. just make sure she knows there is people who are going to be there to help after op, tell her to rest up and let everyone pamper her.

The most important thing is rest, rest and more rest Ive had my appendix out 3 c ections and I thought it would be a piece of cake but it knocked me flat. Took a month to gain my strength back but once I was over that . The best thing I could have done for myself. No more heavy irregular monthlys no more mood swings let life begin. Good luck to Mum. rest and recover and enjoy.
