I hope you've all been outside and had a look at the sky - spectacular Aurora Borealis display over much of Ireland and the UK.

Quite amazing here in Kerry - never thought I'd se it here - photo is 'straight no filters' from my iPhone :

Try scanning the sky with your phone's camera, johnny - it may reveal something hidden to the naked eye.

Your pics look amazing SD, but alas nothing like that here in West Yorkshire clear night can see plenty of stars, have tried phone thing nothing either 😥

That's amazing SD!  Can't  believe I missed it - MrSmow was due home after being away on business since Tuesday and what with him arriving home around 9pm and. Then having a v late shopping delivery etc etc I completely  missed looking outside. Gutted : (

I beleive there is another chance tonight

Blimey

Big sunburst apparently ( news R4 0700)

Too much light pollution here,  oh for a bloody big power cut!

My daughter in law has posted a picture of the southern lights over New Zealand from last night.

We saw them last night in North Manchester.

Arksided, my daughter lives in East Ardsley and they could see them. Were you looking in the right direction? 😄

I live in Berkshire and they were here

Apparently they were spectacular over our village - and we missed them! We'll be out tonight from 11p.m..

of course, you know what happens next - we all wake up blind and get attacked by psychopathic rubber plants......

^. The day of the Triffids. :-(

I didn't look for them last night and not will I tonight

^^^ Not odd at all, Jno.

Our planet has just been hit by the biggest solar storm since 2005.  That's good news for aurora watchers but terrible news for radio amateurs, like me, who find short wave communication totally impossible under such conditions.

normally they're a winter thing in both hemispheres. Still, as long as all these lights don't fade my curtains.

I tried to see the Northern Lights here in Suffolk in the early hours of the morning last night but, alas, the morning mist had already started to develop by then, so they weren't visible.

I've been out tonight too, walking up the road (accompanied by my three cats!) to where I hoped that they'd be visible but, again, no luck.

A copper I was talking to earlier today (or should that be 'yesterday' now?) showed me some photos that he'd taken of the lights last night, not far from where I live.  (No, I wasn't under arrest! He was manning the police stand at a Polish Heritage Day in Ipswich, which I attended).  They were certainly visible here in Suffolk, as this link shows

but I never got to see them.  (I have seen them before though).

at the preshent moment the whole planet'sh lit up

Cloud cover last night over Birmingham, I think I need to book a hotel somewhere further away for a few nights.
