Have you ever fainted, as in lost consciousness?

What triggered it and how long were you out?

Several times. Mainly getting off a pub table.A couple of steps and blackout.Usually out for no more than 5 seconds. Most likely cause was hypertension. Now on oodles of meds and no further problems.

Yes, 5 minutes.  Temporary low blood pressure.  "Out of the blue" after having had X-rays.

Various times - twice in the cinema, I get very carried away!!

Various times in the dentist chair, I am not good with metal objects in my face.

Twice when attempts were made to introduce a camera to my tonsils via my nose - see above.

Yes, standing too long in school assembly on a very hot day.

No; but it was common at eleven o'clock mass.

More times than I care to remember am out for a few minutes to 10.

No, but I've sometimes wanted to because I felt so weak.

I have passed out a few times.

The first time I had just donated some blood.  I was sitting down and face planted into a plate of biscuits.

About a month ago it happened to me three times in one week, once when I was about to get in my daughter's car, quite out of the blue. I was diagnosed with low sodium and spent a night in hospital. I was given sachets of something to take for a week and, fingers crossed it hasn't happened again although it's left me really shocked and nervous about going out on my own. Hoping that's the end of it but very scary at the time.

only an observer knows how long you are 'out'

yes after contrast in X ray - I think I will  'drop' more gracefully next time as I was light headed

I wasnt turned on my side and swallowed my tongue - this was associated in me with a dream of being buried ( no breath see?) in a coffin and covered in scorpions

jesus I was glad t wake up ( and stick my tongue out)

Hospital corridor

yes, last month, sitting in front of my computer and suddenly wondering what I was doing there. I ended up having a brain scan next day but it found nothing [insert joke of your choice here] so I don't know what happened but it was harmless. I was alone so I have no idea how long it lasted.

Yes, I went to give blood.  They pricked my finger and I promptly passed out.  No idea why because I have no issue with that sort of thing.  I have never tried to give blood since because I fear I might be more of a hindrance than a help.

jno. I hope you're OK now.

I am, thanks, Atheist. I'd still quite like to know what happened; but neurologically it seems nothing did. In effect, it was over by the time I started wondering what had happened, which meant I was now fully conscious again.

I'll always wonder if it was some particularly bananas post on AB that set me off.

jno; I hope it wasn't me!

we'll never know...

Thanks for the replies. Hope those who it has happened to recently are ok!

Do any of you feel scared/like a sense of dread upon waking up and fear for months afterwards..  I have passed out 8 times in my life first was in primary school and last was 2 years ago after injuring my knee on a ship.

Most have been explainable but some days I get episodes which last hours where I feel under the weather/like I might pass out and it creates anxiety. I don't want avoid stuff when feeling like this but at the same time am terrified of passing out.

Hit on the forehead just above the eye socket by a cricket ball when fielding.  Think I blacked out for a couple of seconds - a crowd formed very quickly!

Waited 4 hours in A&E, no doctor was forthcoming, so drove home in my bloodied whites, a magnificent shiner slowly closing my left eye.

The smell of TCP would make my late mum faint.

No idea why, unless she associated it with something in the past.

Dunno if this counts, I woke in a wheelchair in a hospital, after being knocked off my bicycle by a lorry, it wasn't headon, his wing mirror clipped me, throwing to the pavement. I have no memory of what happened, I believe a witness mustve told the ambulance driver.

I think I was out for the count for 24 hours. Ended with 21 stitches on the back of my head.
