Laser (like that) IS now a word, confirmed in dictionaries. Its origin, light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation, is confirmed. No-one uses a LASER-card or LASER printer or LASER pen....

I've never seen a report of the police bringing someone down with a light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation, so yes, I have always thought that laser was just a word.
