I’m looking for a good smoky/woodsy cologne. I’ve been wearing Creed Aventus for years and want to change it up. Something masculine that doesn’t smell too mature or like aftershave and doesn’t smell synthetic either. Any suggestions?

I like Cool Water, Dune, and Invictus - they all tick the boxes you mention.
Have a look at Joop. I actually asked a young chap in a shop what he was wearing because he smelt so gorgeous and he said 'Joop'. I'm not sure what flavour of Joop it was, but no doubt the descriptions will tell you which might be smoky/woodsy.

Cologne, like all scents, is a matter of what your senses tell you, and here is a prime example.

Naomi felt moved enough by the smell of Joop to ask what it was - one whiff of it makes me gag!!
Cool Water - 1988; Dune - 1997. Middle aged men's colognes.
Problem with cologne is that what smells good on me could smell rank on you - it reacts differently on everyone.

Huge range of prices, too - how much do you want to pay?
Which one in the range makes you gag? There are several.

I'm not sure that you can judge the suitability of anything on the basis of how old it is.

Take the Mini - designed in the late fifties - still being driven today.

'Old' does not equate with obsolete.

I'm not sure - one of my sons-in-law wears it, I will have to ask when i see him which one it is.
Younger people are able to associate older scents with their parents, uncles, aunts and teachers, though.
A 30 year old shouldn't smell like his dad

A fair point, but the only colognes that I can think of that are instantly identifiable as 'old' are Old Spice and Brut - I doubt any young person would be able to pin down a cologne as an 'old man's' scent.
That's probably because those are the aftershaves YOUR dad wore, Andy, or your teachers.
i always liked Paco Rabbane.
My 31 year old son always smells quite good so i've just called and asked him what he wears. '1 Million Pure' is a woody aroma. He was wearing some cheaper product up to about a year back but found he had to apply it several times per day. The aroma from 1 Million Pure, he says, is still evident after about 5 or 6 hours
On your recommendation, sqad, I bought that for my husband - and bought it again for him. I thought it might be a bit too expensive to recommend though - although I would recommend it.
naomi.....it sends women mad..-;)
You get what you pay for, but to be fair it is a personal choice.
I also use the deodorant, but use Molton Brown shower gel.

So that's what happened to me. I was wondering ... :o)
LOL.....cheeky.
;o)
I did similar to naomi and realised I had followed someone up an aisle because he smelt so nice. That was Joop as well. Some of the Hugo Boss ones are nice too, but different ones smell different on different people. You need to try them out on yourself.
I think smelling nice is absolutely essential.

I understand I haven't been blessed with looking like Dan Stevens, but you work with what you've got, and smelling nice is an option everyone can get on board with.
