When the charity shops open again, I intend to spring clean my wardrobes, but I need your help.
I think the best way for me to do this, is to decide how many things I really need, and so I'm hoping you can tell me how many pairs of shoes, sandals, boots, trainers, skirts, trousers, tops, jumpers, cardigans, coats, nighties, pyjamas, dressing gowns (and anything else I've missed) I need to keep.
Do you do this yourself, and do you put all your winter clothes away when the nice weather arrives? Please help.

I don't count in numbers. I throw everything onto my bed and put away those first that I wear most often. Then those I have worn. Tbh, after 6 months/ a year, if I haven't bothered with something, I probably won't.
i can't advise you, as i have too much stuff, and already gave 14 large black bags last time to Shelter. There could be more in the room, but feel one day i will go in there and like a jungle explorer, never come out

Main problem for me is I can't keep to the same weight, so I have clothes that I like, nothing wrong with them, but don't fit me at the moment, but I keep assuring my self I will lose weight and they will fit me again.
Do you have somewhere to store your favourite clothes, that don't fit you just yet?
I understand... as I got rid of all my favourite size 8 jeans, as they hadn't fitted me in ages. Without taking into account I was 9 months pregnant, and they would have done after. Lol.

I have a loft, and as far as I know, it is dry up there, but I can't get up there myself as I can't climb the ladder, but I could always ask my daughter who comes round once a week if she could put stuff up there for me. It's times like this I wish I was a man, as they don't need half as many clothes as us. :-)
Barsel get rid! When you lose the weight you can get new stuff. I think its impossible for you to choose your wardrobe on the basis of mine or anyone else's. I live in skinny jeans and sweatshirts or shirts or skinny jeans and t shirts or short sleeved shirts and crocs. I don't own any skirts or dresses. one of my sisters wears skirts and dresses and owns no jeans, the other wears jeans but not sweatshirts. I own no formal clothes at all and only one "occasion" outfit. I do prune my wardrobe regularly and yes I have got a warm weather wardrobe and a colder weather wardrobe including sleeping stuff. I have got loads of coats and jackets but a lot of them are old and beloved.
I understand the attic thing. I used to be able to hop up and down the ladder without a second thought but now I have to limit my access because of my dodgy knee. BUT it has been good for my hoarder instincts as I know that anything I put up there is not easily accessible.
Lol. Maybe store your "favourite, but don't fit yet" for now. But get rid of anything that does- and you have chosen not to wear for six months. I find it difficult, tbh, but also have never really noticed or missed anything I have got rid of- so be harsh.
Plus, then you have room to buy new clothes :-)
The rule I live by, if I haven't worn them in a 6-months to a year then the chances are I won't again so in a charity bag they go
i have no loft, nor would i be able to get up into one if i did.
i have four seasons of clothes, on proper shop style garment racks. i have put on weight, lost it, put on weight, and stayed like it.
so what i have now is my larger size gear.

i literally gave 40 bags to a BHF shop couple of years ago, all stuff that didn't fit. Perhaps you can get your daughter to put stuff up in the loft, all that doesn't currently fit you. shoes, boots can stay
That's also my theory, bobbi. But then I think... "what if there's a wedding...." lol
the vagaries of our weather means you could need your coats in July when it should be warm, or wearing lighter clothes when its warm in March/April, as was the case at least here, for a spell last year.
I daren't think any other way Pix or I'd end up being a hoarder, I have a friend who has her receipts for the furniture they bought when they got married in.......1964!
Now that's a serial hoarder
I'm hopeless at this. I've told myself time and time again to be ruthless! I did do better last time, but still got a full wardrobe.

I daren't buy new clothes as my daughters jump on me if they spot I am wearing something different, they are like the Gestapo!
When did you buy that, do you really need it, how much did it cost!
Even my grandson took it upon himself to count how many things I own that have butterflies on as I love anything like that, but he gave up counting and said, 'Nanna, stop buying things just because they have butterflies on them.'
ok i have receipts too that go back away, though i did clear many out,
furniture bought 25 or so years ago. Admittedly i would start to clear that filing cabinet out but its stuck in a cupboard with the fridge freezer blocking its path
I've got stuff with tags on from M&S and Roman online, we need to get out of this piggin' lockdown :0(
Barsel I too have a daughter who asks " Do you really need that"
Barsel, I give you full permission to buy things with butterflies on! Lol. Please tell him that.
I always intend to be completely ruthless, and then throw out... 2 things.
barsel, your money you do as you like.
as to pruning the wardrobe, be realistic, are you going to get into
the too small stuff again, if not then send to charity.
or as said put up in the loft, or keep them if you go on a diet that actually works.
