It appears for once some supermarkets have decided to close on boxing day, Asda being the main one so far, makes sense to me giving staff more than one day off.
So the question for ABs is do you ever feel the need to food shop again on boxing day, or for anything else come to that. Shut or open, whats you're choice??

Closed. Like it used to be years ago. Everything closed down for about a week. Then we went off to the January sales. Somewhere along the way Boxing Day became the Sales day so it will be nice to revert back and at least get a couple of days break.

I have on occasion nipped out for something on Boxing Day, my local corner shop is a supermarket.

Not felt the need to do it for many a year now though.
Not need. Nice option to have though, but Xmas is for staying in the warm if possible, and eating/drinking too much.
No, always have more than enough stuff in. Give shopping a miss for several days over the festive period. Nice to hear the staff are having more time off actually.
fine by me, though I hope it doesn't mean staff getting even less pay that they do now. I used to work up to 14 hours a day coming up to Christmas, just to fill my pockets, but that was when I was young and didn't have a family to be with.
i would rather they give the staff the two days off, always thought unnecessary to open Boxing day

I'm all for it for 2 reasons, one the staff get more time off, but my main reason is that they will have to reduce more stock on Christmas eve, more goodies to be had :0)))))))
When I worked for BHS on Customer Service Boxing Day was a nightmare , the Sale had been put on late Christmas Eve so it was a case of people fetching stuff back to buy it back at the reduced price, I don't think we had time for a break
You would think with all the panic buying you witness on the run up to Christmas that there would be no need to shop on boxing day, if people are desperate there is always a petrol garage shop open.
big shops have opened on Boxing day as long as i can remember, many of those have gone to the wall.
Our local supermarket is a Co-op, they will be open, doubt we'll need anything to be fair.
our local waitrose may be open maybe not, personally i would shut all the supermarkets for the two days, the staff should get a break too
Our Coop isn't Tashi, is yours a concession as they may open
Daft idea imho.
I'd gave them a week Emmie to be taken at their own leisure, the supermarkets have done very well from the pandemic, either an extra week paid holiday or a Christmas bonus
By daft I meant it’s daft to be open. No one is gonna starve if it’s shut one day.
its probable they get that, but the times i have been in local store there always seems to be the same staff on.
Every shop should close on Boxing Day.
I'm going by the TV ad as to which s/markets will be open. Co-ops shown as open.
I'm delighted to hear that some of the shops will stay closed on Boxing Day. Everyone needs a break, whether that be from working or from shopping.

I live in the countryside and we are always geared up for bad weather in the winter. If we need to we can manage for a couple of weeks without a shop. We have a sack of potatoes from the farm shop at this time of year, some UHT milk for emergencies, tins and packets and jars of stuff, the cupboards are full. What can anyone possible need form a store on Boxing Day?
I know a few women who work at our Coop Tashi and it's on our Residence page that it's closed, unless it's up to individual Managers?
