Watching a programme anorexic ladies I am struck by how these ladies are treated with sympathy and caring and how there is help out there for them. But when it comes to obesity you are told to eat less and move more and are treated with complete derision.

Many people who have had bariatric surgery are unable to deal with the loose skin they get as a result and the NHS won't remove it. It's not just unsightly but can cause discomfort and infections and hinder exercise. I can understand anyone putting weight on, it's so easy to do for most of us but the morbidly obese have other issues either psychiatric, emotional...

Rockrose you have a problem. You seem to be the one trying to derail your own thread to again become a 'victim'. Carry on. I'll leave it there.

Haha you are so funny!
"" rockrose you have a problem " who doesn't ? :-)
Ummm I do think that it should be treated the same way as Anorexia as they are both eating disorders, just in different ways.

Kvalidar.. yes, you have the right person and he is helping me. The first person to do so and I have lost 3 stone under his watchful eye. The only issue is that when I have been good, I ask for a treat or if I am having a bad mental day, he knows that food can comfort me even through he tries very hard to resist the temptation to give it to me. He is getting me to exercise me which is good too.
Actually AL.....RR looks brilliant!
Sometimes anorexics are told they're 'not thin enough' to require treatment. How horrendous is that?
Well done Badpuss. I hope you're proud of yourself x

Bagpuss that is amazing well done you xx
Just joining the thread re portion control. My sister used to eat 1 slice of toast with butter and cream cheese, I used to eat 2 with jam and no butter. She thought I ate more than her, but calorie wise, she was having the most.
Awesome Bagpuss, I'm so happy and proud of you, and lovely to see you Master doing what good Masters do and looking after your best interests so well, go him too! x

Sorry Ummm I meant to say thank you for that boost xx
Whether as a result of a psychological condition or not, anorexia emanates from the rejection of food but the obese choose the food they consume which hence creates their problem. Understandably I think, the obese, because of the choices they make quite freely, generate less sympathy.
naomi, the people I have met have had no more freedom in their choice than the anorexic has although it may seem that way to others. The nearest that I can get is that its like saying that someone who has OCD resulting in repetitive behaviours has choice over whether they do them or not
Woofgang, I understand what you’re saying, but that, I think, is the way obesity is perceived – and my experiences aren’t yours. For example, when out for coffee one friend of mine, grossly overweight, rejects tea or coffee and chooses hot chocolate made with milk and topped with marshmallows instead. That really is a deliberate and unnecessary choice.
There is too much enabling. I'm sure a minority of Obese people have psychological problems, but I'm sure the majority just like food and make wrong choices. Years ago it used to be the excuse 'I'm big boned'. Now its 'I have an emotional problem.'
Naomi I think you are wasting your typing finger. Today anything that involves a modicum of self control becomes difficult emotionally or an 'addiction' .
AuntLydia, I agree. There's always a reason other than the obvious one.
I give up.....
AL
I believe an element of selfishness creeps in here as well.
