Anyone had any experience of doing these exercises? I'm looking for tips as to how I can carry them out without feeling so nauseous.

No I haven't had any experience of doing the exercises personally, so I will hang back on this post.

Can you ouch for the efficacy, Sqad? Is it worth persevering with them although they make me feel really ill?
Yes I have Tilly. You are supposed to keep doing them and gradually the nausea and dizziness will not be so bad and fade away completely. I must admit I gave up they made me feel so awful.
Question Author
Thanks, LB. That's why I'm asking about them. I am on the verge of giving up on them. Did your vertigo subside in the end, despite you giving up the exercises?
They will work.....in 90% of cases in BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo) but is tough going and good luck to you.
Ladybirder has summed it up very well indeed.
"when the going gets tough, the tough get going" LOL.
Good luck.

Thank you, Sqad. I don't suppose there's a timescale, is there? It's probably like, 'How long's a piece of string?'

Looking at the patient information leaflets from various hospitals, there seems to be good news and bad news.

The bad news is that the nausea is unavoidable:
"The exercises are likely to provoke dizziness . . . "

The good news is that you don't have to stick with them for ages, and that they've got a good success rate:
"In most people, complete relief from symptoms is obtained after about 10 days"

Thank you for those links, Buenchico.

It looks like I need to persevere!
Well there you go the inevitable websites........

"In most people, complete relief from symptoms is obtained after about 10 days. "
The above from one of the links is in my opinion, unlikely and engenders unrealistic expectations......but , I suppose you pays yer money and you take your chances.
Question Author
Sqad, I have been doing the exercises for the last week. Things don't seem any better. That's why I was asking for personal experiences. I have leaflets, given to me by my GP.
Yes Tilly, it has subsided despite giving up. It was just that you had to do so many at a time and so many times a day that got me down. Currently I have the odd moment of being dizzy, usually when posting on here;-))
Question Author
For how long did you do the exercises before you gave up, LB?

I don't mind taking the time but I feel so unwell afterwards.
I'm ashamed to say it was only about 3 days and nowhere near the full amount each day. Felt too ill. Seemed to me the cure was worse than the illness. Then I felt guilty so about 3 days after that I started again and nothing happened. No sickness, no dizziness, nothing. Couldn't believe it.
At the moment I get dizzy only if I tilt my head back to look up, look down too quickly (pick the dog poo up slowly) or occasionally when I turnover in bed. It's a nuisance but I can live with it at this level.
Question Author
It's a blommin' nuisance when you need to change an overhead lightbulb too!

Yes it is. First visitor after it has blown gets the job.

Sorry Tilly, I'm sure it will get better soon. x
Question Author
Thank you for your good wishes, Sqad and Ladybirder.

I have a follow up appointment with the GP next week, so I will carry on until then and see what she says. In the meantime though I am just going to do the exercises before I go to bed, then I won't be feeling sick all day.
Sounds a good idea, hope it works for you.
Question Author
I am surprised that it's only you and I that have experience of this LB. We must be unique!

The very special vertiginous ones. :-)
mrs ff gave it up after a few attempts, Tilly. She found the effects were far worse than the problems she was experiencing.
The vertigo problems subsided of their own accord- or at least she has learnt how to avoid/reduce the frequency of vertigo incidents - for example she now asks me to pick anything up that she drops on the floor
Question Author
Thanks, FF. Mr T does the same for me :-) He even ties my shoelaces.

He won't climb on the step ladders though.
