fact I think
myth - they aren't bothered if the hair is clean or dirty.
kags is right it's a myth I'm afraid. I think nurses and doc. used to say that to make you feel better if you or you child had them.  My son had them for ages, horrible little things uurrgghh
I think it's because it is more difficult for the eggs to stick to greasy hair but in my experience they're not fussy.

FACT

Here is the evidence :-)

What is the effect of a greasy scalp and/or hair on headlice and nits ?
Lice and nits love clean scalps ! The cleaner the scalp, the more attractive to the lice ! There seems hardly any relationship between a greasy scalp and/or hair and the occurrence of head lice

Kags is right, but they do prefer clean hair, as its easier to get to your scalp to suck your blood. My daughter has had them on a few occasions, from the day centre she goes to, they are an inconvenience, but harmless.

hey littlemiss x you answered my ? earlier
"They are concerned only with their own survival and so arent picky about whose head they inhabit, nor do they care about the condition of the hair; clean or not so clean, either will do"

At that size I expect a little grease is like a swamp to them, and covers them in it, bleeurgh!

So yes, 'd say they probably like clean hair best

headlice willl cling to any hair,

no matter long, thick, short , dirty, clean or fine.

and contrary to popular belief they will live for approx 4 days on a piece of kitchen roll.

I have 2 girls with very long hair and one is always  "clean" the other suffers.

Do not listen to what is regarded as the norm..

Maybe the parenting thread??? could help you  more x

I have always found that the comb and conditioner is the best.

lice adore clean hair!!! both my children had them and so did i and hubs, tried all the lotions and potions, got reinfected a couple of times, finally shifted them with conditioner and a nit comb, forget expensive lotions, conditioner is just fine.
its easier to notice lice on a clean head than a dirty one
