Are there truly people in this world who can communicate with the dead or is it a cruel con trick? I have an open mind personally, but am interested to hear other people's views.

hc; //Do they communicate with you, Khandro?//

Well not probably in the sense implied in the OP, but when in a given situation we say; "What would my Father, Thomas Aquinas, Nietzsche, Jesus, Buddha, Churchill, uncle Charlie (or whoever) have said? ..... and then imagine, isn't that a form of communication with the dead?

No, Khandro, it isn't. That is, as you say, your imagination.
Not entirely, when you think about it.
I have thought about it. Anyone can imagine what the dead might say if they were still alive, but that doesn't equate to physically 'communing' with them.
I have experienced too many strange phenomena to dismiss the notion of something after death....happenings in and around me in several homes...lights..tv..radio..going off and on ..sometimes upon demand....alarms going off for no reason but at significant times.....have experienced communications via ouija boards with info not known to anyone ..have been on several experiences with the Most Haunted team..the same spirit follows me from event to event....loads of intelligent knocking....ie answering questions on demand.. sounds airy fairy..but I assure you all very real ..
Agee with mint y.. Many charlatans, I'm sure, but I have experienced

Sorry, have huge problems with this site at times. To continue. Outside showbiz and personally I have experienced things that are inexplicable in normal terms. Simple example: an egg-cup describing an arc from a shelf and ending on the floor by my mum's feet. No-one was within 6 feet of said shelf and it was witnessed by 4 people - one of whom quietly excused herself and left immediately. Several others - a gt-gt-grandma's rocking-chair starting to rock violently on its own when it was moved to the end of the room and away from the fire - several non -family witnesses. Too many to mention - foootsteps heard so you went to open the door, no-one there. Not scary, but I am convinced of 'more things than are dreamt of in your philosophy, Horatio'. Lots of other small experiences.
I would have thought most people have seen or heard things they can't explain. That doesn’t mean there isn't a rational explanation, just that you don't know what it is.
pixie, I’m sure there is a ‘rational’ explanation for all these things, but it’s not a ‘rationality’ that we are currently aware of. For example, scientists have said that they may have discovered a new force, not accounted for in the Standard Model, indicating that our view of physics might be entirely wrong. I’m not saying that this discovery is the answer by any means, simply that science still has much to learn.
When I was a student I shared a house with four other women. Weird things happened and we were all convinced the house was haunted, and we often all slept in the same room because we were scared. We met the group of lads who had the house after us. They were also convinced there was a ghost.
Looking back on it now, there was a rational explanation for everything.
