So, it would seem that all this faddy eating that has become fashionable these days, is going to cause problems in later life, especially for women. Vegans beware !

Some people are dairy intolerant.
Question Author
That is right, but many more people, and mostly girls, if the experience of my family is anything to go by, are just fussy and don't eat any dairy products because they think that a little bit of cheese is going to make them fat.
Well that's not a faddy diet. That's psychological.

Diets like the Atkins is faddy.
//Eliminating milk products entirely can be harmful unless the missed nutrients are replaced//
''unless the missed nutrients are replaced'' is the key phrase. Humans don't need milk. We are the only species on earth to drink milk after infancy, and the only species to consume another animals milk. Its unnatural and you can quiet easyily get calcium from other sources.
Having said that I quiet like dairy products myself....
Me too. I love a glass of ice cold milk.

Then again....I don't worry about my weight.

If I was on a diet the first thing to go would be sugar.
I probably eat less dairy then ideal; I must add a 500ml tub of ice cream each day to top up, then.
I was in hospital a few times as a youngster and they always gave the kids ice cream.
School used to provide me with 1/3rd of a pint of milk daily too. Don't get through that much these days. A few daily teas/coffees, a rare (monthly ?) shake. that said, now I think of it, when at my woman's place we do have milk coffee and hot chocolate so maybe I top up there :-)
I loved my school milk. Damn Thatcher the milk snatcher!
I'm lactose intolerant
I'm just intolerant.
"It's not known why the young people were avoiding dairy"

I personally don't think young people are going dairy free because it's cool, we're just doing more research as to where our food comes from.

Also people have been vegans for as long as I can remember, professional athletes David Haye, Venus and Serina Williams and many UFC/Mixed Martial Arts fighters are vegan.
I have to be really careful with dairy but I and most people I know with an intolerance take calcium supplements

Ummm...I had forgotten all about Thatcher the Milk Snatcher !

Perhaps its time that we brought back free milk into our primary schools. It kept many a dairy farm and milkman going, it can't be that expensive to provide and it does the kids some real good.

Whats not to like ?
The last school I taught in was a special school and free milk and fruit was provided every day.

The school in which I now volunteer also has a mountain of fruit for children to eat at break times. No crisps, biscuits or snacks allowed. They all eat the fruit.
^ 'free milk and fruit were provided' ^
Tilly...my kids primary school gave out fruit at break times.

My sister-in-law is a "dinner lady" at her local primary school in Carmarthen, and as well as lunches, they have a free breakfast as well ! Not sure if this happens in England, but its quite common here in Wales.
Intersting comment about vegans because those who I know are very aware of what they should and should not eat for their own good health - possibly more so than many omnivores. You might disapprove of their lifestyle but surely its their choice.
Indeed it is their choice, and I'm sure they will be pleased to hear, and heed, the warning.
