Probably downloads.

Look for either the name of the map or the web address.

When you "save" do you get a choice of where to save?

no choice ozzy, just saved
they'll all go to the same place. So try downloading something, give it a memorable name before you save it (eg XXXXX or something). Then when it's done, do a search for XXXXX. When it comes up in the search results, right click and it should offer you the option of "Go to file location" or something. Click that and it will bring up the folder where all your downloads are going.
oh, and click on Tools > Options (or something similar at the top of your browser page). Somewhere in there will be a place where it says something like "Always ask me where to file things". Tick that.
Doesn't work like that - you don't need to know where it is, and can't use the downloaded file separately anyway.

You can check whether it has downloaded by disconnecting your device from the internet and starting google maps - you should still be able to view the saved area (but streetview won't work).
I've just been looking at it and, as far as I can see, the map is saved in the cloud (as part of your Google account). You need to go to https://mymaps.google.com/ to access it.

That's largely based upon reading this:

If you want to save a map for printing out (either directly or after importing it into a document) then you should use the Windows Snipping Tool. (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Snipping Tool).
I was assuming this was the Google Maps app on either an android/apple device Chris - never occurred to me that it might be windows.

^^^ I only assumed Windows, Dave, because of the reference to folders called 'Documents' and 'Downloads', which I associate with that particular operating system (rather than with Android).
Ah yes - I see your point
