There's a lady judge with a way with salty language featured in the news yesterday. I was musing if she'd been the first to use such language.

Mr Justice Cocklecarrot was fictional character in 'Private Eye' back in the 1970s . It was never made clear who it was based on but Lord Denning was a strong contender.

apparently WAS chosen for the Profumo inquiry ( Denning I mean ) because his masters were reasonably certain he would concentrate on the girlie prostitute side and not the KGB side

Justice Cocklecarrot was based on Sir Oliver Popplewell who did a lot of libel. -he was even called out of retirement to hear a libel case under the old law as so many rules of libel were opposite to those of civil law [ once the claimant had shown the words might be libellous then the onus was on the defendant to prove they werent ]

The Krays were sentenced in the early 1960s over 50 years ago.

I was an avid reader of 'Private Eye' back in the late 60s. Mention of Justice Crocklecarrot brings it all back, along with 'Talking about Uganda' (meaning having illicit sex) and the phase 'Tired and emotional ' (meaning pi *** ed )
