All that happens is the boats pick up the migrants for the sea then bring them to the UK, never having to return to where they came from. If these people find out they have a good chance of getting rescued, even more will try their luck. It should be made plain that any getting picked up will immediately be sent back without setting foot in the UK at all.

I agree, it should be made plain that they will be sent back to where they departed from.
As for more patrols, It does seem a waste of time as they will come here whether they're picked up at sea or not.
If I had my way, there would be armed guards on the beach, firing at them!!!! That'll keep them away. Lol.
Agree Sharon.

I’d like to see those armed guards extended to any possible point of entry (or exit from France).
I think it is a good way to deter the profiteering by the traffickers and if they are returned to France or where the boat started out from then that should appease the xenophobes!
They will just end up as fat taxis to the UK. Despite the people are 'fleeing' a very safe country; France.
*fast

Absolutely, and on slack days, they could use a few local Muslims for target practice!!!

Oh, what a gay day!
I suppose you consider yourself very smart for that post Andy.

Well, wake up. Others are entitled to a view, if you dont like it by all means post up and argument, but attempting to demean someone is not nice.
I thought Sharon was joking.
Well, Jambutty, if Sharon was joking, then I'm not.
Good for you !
I take your point Dave and yes you are correct, under their current orders they are indeed achieving the opposite. However more boats with heavy machine guns ought to do the trick, may have to sink a couple before they get the message but in the end lives will be saved. Let us not forget that these are not refugees they are from an EU country, less salubrious perhaps but I think Safe-ish, and under EU law the rules are clear.

In 1958 to 1961 the Royal Navy deployed a total of 53 warships in the operations against Iceland in the 1st cod war.

Seems they were more concerned in those days regarding fish, than we appear to be today against invaders to our country.

Does the navy even have 53 ships any more?

It's probably a matter of urgency of deployment rather than anything else, and I would suggest that the term 'invaders' is perhaps a little OTT?
Invade Def;
to intrude upon:
to encroach or infringe upon:
to enter as if to take possession:
to enter like an enemy:

/// and I would suggest that the term 'invaders' is perhaps a little OTT? ///

By saying that I don't think it is a little OTT, what is it if foreign nationals unlawfully landing on our shores, if it is not being invaded?

Invasion: an unwelcome intrusion into another's domain.
