The definition of 'local' bus services (on which your pass is valid) is usually taken to mean a service which can't be booked in advance and where the stops are no more than 15 minutes apart. (At one time the definition included services where the stops were no more than 15 miles apart but there seems to have been some tightening of the rules).

Express services in Cumbria, such as Stagecoach Gold X4 and X5, are definitely 'local' services, so your pass will be valid on them.
PS: Traveline North East should always be able to tell you whether your pass is valid on a particular service or not. Phone 0871 200 22 33 (0700-2100, daily, 12p per minute from a BT landline).

[My sense of geography hasn't gone awry. Cumbria really does come under 'Traveline North East', rather than 'Traveline North West', honestly!]
