Testing The Voice Box

A friend of mine is having a procedure to test her voice box as her voice is croaky all the time.Would this mean a camera going down the throat or the nose?If it's the nose, then she is ok with that, but won't let them put anything down her throat. Also, what sort of things could give her this croakiness? Many thanks.

Laryngoscopy......a flexible tube passed up the nose, to the back of the throat and then continued on behind the soft palate and into the larynx.
All this is done with the nose and throat "numbed". It is painless and the "gagging" is suppressed.

I had a croaky throat a while ago and needed a camera down to have a look. They went up my nose and spayed some kind of anaesthetic to help - if I remember correctly, t only partly numbed, but that was intentional apparently.
The cause of my croaky voice turned out to be a polyp - but that won't necessarily be the same for your friend.
