"...remains that fatal foetal abnormality on its own is not a case for termination and still needs to be considered on the grounds of the woman's mental health."
Not in Northern Ireland apparently. The quote is from the guidelines on abortion issued on Good Friday.

In the rest of the UK . . .
"The section 1(1) grounds for an abortion are . . .
. . . (d) that there is a substantial risk that if the child were born it would suffer from such physical or mental abnormalities as to be seriously handicapped"

We're what, a hundred years behind the rest of the Uk.?
I have watched NI termination with interest, any state that forces women to travel to the 'main land' for treatment that by law that is allowed in the rest of the UK is definitely backwards.

Don't get me started on the ban on homosexuals giving blood!
if the woman says - and two doctors agree - that her mental or physical health would be compromised if she were to continue with the pregnancy, she would be allowed an abortion. uppose it could be argued that having a baby with an abnormality might contribute to this.
I can't see much difference between the new guidelines and what has always happened. Abortion is available on demand, whether it's totally legal or not.

. . . or possibly on the only part of the British Isles which doesn't permit same-sex marriage?

And you can't expect to have your cake and eat it. Particularly if the message on the icing is contentious.
Exactly Chris!

The termination row in NI is run by politicians and the church - they are not taking into consideration the girls and women at risk. Basically its no to termination in all cases even rape!
