My wife's bank statements came this morning, on checking there was a payment that she knew nothing about for £1,230 paid via the net to the above J. L, this was paid on the 13 March 2015, we reported this straight away & also J.L., If I can advise, please check your statements as I believe this is a cuscam.

I check my Bank balance at least 3 times a week, also my Bank would require an extra layer of security before approving a payment of that size.

I must admit this is one huge advantage of on-line banking, we check our statements a couple of time a week. I hope your wife's bank are receptive to sorting this out quickly, TWR.

I wouldn't have noticed right away, I check on-line only once a week at most so thank you for the heads up.

I have been the victim of a scam before and I would have defied anyone not to have been taken in...they are very sophisticated (it involved a fraud of several thousands but we were re-imbursed almost immediately). My husband who is more astute financially than I am has also fallen foul, only found out as the bank called as there was suspicious activity on his account.All he did was pay for something on-line....within minutes they'd scammed hundreds. No-one is safe.
You're not a dullard by any stretch of the imagination to be caught out nowadays.

and so virtually no internet banking at all

I check daily as well after the local shop took out £450 instead of £45. Didn't know until the bank statement came in. They gave the money back. The shop keeper was a bit distracted by some cleavage....lol...although I should have checked before putting the pin in.

when I was in a licensed garage (!) they added my six bottle of champagne to the preceding payers card - and he didnt notice !

Like a good boy scout I said my bill was far too low for what I had bought and she said - Oh ! he comes in a lot and I will tell him next week !

Hey umm ! at a fambly wedding the sister of the groom did a runner ( excuse me ? she left the hotel without paying for her overnight room ? yup ) and so they put it on my bill...

which I paid.....

caused an awful lot of fambly trouble when I squawked ( loudly )

I check my accounts everyday on my laptop. For any money to be withdrawn from them a code number must be used and this code changes for every transaction. I have a little machine that I click and the new number comes onto its screen and then I tap it in to my transaction on my laptop.

I only check mine a couple times a month, I dont want to get depressed too often!

I only check mine when the statment comes through too. I feel sure that online banking reduces the security levels. I also use Paypal whenever possible online to avoid sharing card details unless necessary and check for the padlock symbol. Never use my cards in garages or restaurants eithe.

Having said that I did have a fraudulent payment some 7 yeas ago and the bank phoned me to ask if it was genuine. When it wasn't they cancelled it and swapped my debit card for a new one.
