Coming soon to a place near you. Where I live, on Dec 21st sunset is at 4:41pm; on Dec 31st it'll be 4:47pm. That's better news than Christmas is coming:)

What time does it rise though stuey? x
Question Author
For some reason, I always equate the time of sunset to the length of time of daylight that we get. Sunrise time doesn't really seem to vary that much in the first few weeks after the Solstice. For you own area, check www time and date.com, and type in your location.

I just checked for London, England. Sunset on Dec 21st, 3:43pm; Dec 31st, 4:01pm.
Great isn't it? A few seconds longer each day and before you know it spring and summer are here. :-)
Question Author
But let's not wish away time, right? It goes fast enough:)
Whoop!!! I'm gonna celebrate. My work mornings *will* get brighter. :-)
Oh how I do agree with you. Always wishing my life away, but at this time of year feel better after Dec 21st. I know then we are on the up for Spring. Cant bear the lack of light in the winter.
The winter solstice is a time for celebration. By the time you go back to work in January, you will notice the difference. Here comes the sun!
Question Author
One good thing about this time of the year is that with the sun being so low it shines right through the big windows we have (we face south) and heats the place up. So we seldom have the heat on even when its -20 and below. This really saves on the hydro bill!
That is a bonus, stuey.
Question Author
And conversely, Tilly, during the Summer, when the sun is higher, it DOESN'T shine in; therefore, we don't need the a/c on!
"by the time you go back to work in January"? from when???
I hate driving in that low sun though, stuey.
Question Author
Yes, Tony, that is a little disconcerting, especially in the late afternoon.
Dunno why but I always seem to driving into the sun late afternoon, stuey.

"Go west, young man: go west!")
"by the time you go back to work in January"? from when???

I wondered the same...
I have Christmas day off,and New Years...that's it.
Question Author
In fact, Tony, if you keep on driving off into the sunset, eventually you could join me for a wobbly-pop or five.
Isn't it fab. I notice the days getting longer as soon as we get into January. Think it's roughly 1.5 - 2 mins a day. Soon adds up.
Great idea, stuey, think I could make it foe Christmas day ?.
