Just found this on the BBC News website and I thought it might be interesting to see how his death was reported, before we all knew that he was monster ::

I just spotted the same thing and was thinking of posting the something. This was in The Mail and was extremely gushing. It was less than a year later that the picture changed completely.

I have said on here before that I knew him and even met up with him once for the evening Found him interesting. He was clever enough to keep his tracks covered and only show himself in a good light. The sun newspaper tracked me down but told them it was totally nothing interesting.

Hindsight is indeed a much valued quality but in the case of Savile it seems that many people did know, including his colleagues and more importantly the Police, but decided to do nothing.

In a similar way the Cyril Smith was known about but left alone so that his appalling abuse continued unabated. It seems that for evil to thrive, all it takes is for good men to do nothing.

He is indeed dead Mrs O but most of his victims are not. They must still be very puzzled, as we all are, that so much was known but so little was done.
I am not convinced that there are not some Saviles and Smiths still around, getting away with blue murder, and that is why we must learn from monsters like Savile. Otherwise history will continue to repeat itself.

In the case of Cyril Smith when all enquiries are completed there may be more revelations of more well known names.

Oh there will be grumpy...have no fear of that. But first we need to get that long-awaited public enquiry off the ground. dave has still not appointed a replacement for Butler-Sloss. This affair has all the appearance of being kicked into the long grass, and it stinks.

By the way, if you haven't already read Simon Danczuk's book " Smile for the Camera...the Secret Life of Cyril Smith"...it will make you hair stand on end. A copy will be available in your local library.
