Human hair is not fully understood at all. If you consider our early ancestors, continuously growing hair would be a nuisance, given the shortage of palaeo-l'oreal. And surely wooly curly hair would be better in cold climates than straight hair?

It grows to the length it does so that people can pay billions of pounds every year to L'Oreal and the rest.

Because you're worth it.
Hair today, gone tomorrow!

that could be very well be for ladies but the young men today who are completely bald by the time they are in their late 20s. EG Prince William
Meant to say I pity the young men - it must so embarrassing and of course they look much older.

The men in my family tend to go bald early, my nephew was severely receding at the age of 20, my 3 brothers are all bald, my other nephews are on their way to it as well. I fear for my nearly 17 year old son's hair :-/
The females seem to go grey early and have early menopause, our family is cursed. lol.
Oh no, 4 inches is nowhere near long enough
thinning leads to baldness
Thinning may lead to a bald pate, not always to full head baldness.
well where I come from all the fellas who are thinning only - go ahead and get the rest shaved off.

This is the whole look now - bald head and five o'clock shadow......

That's a lovely pic of Prince William.

Actually, mine Does only grow a few inches, then stops. I have gone for years without it being cut, in the hope of growing it, and it has never yet got past my chin.
Alas.
But it looks great short and neatly shaped, so I have to lump it.
How would it know ?
