Thanks for some very interesting replies guys.
PP, my OH's mum is a retired GP. When she was working, there was a major RTA and the hospital was trying to get in as many extra staff as possible. One surgeon they rang, said "I can't work. I've just had a bottle of brandy".
The hospital said "don't worry- we'll send a taxi for you".
So, not safe to drive, but fine to operate :-\
Scary!!
Yes!
Do you have a drink problem nailit? To answer your question, my brother is an alcoholic.
Question Author
Elina, yes, I struggle at times with drink,
I hope you are one of the ones that overcomes alcohol then nailit. Drink has always come first with my brother, before his marriage .. divorced ... before his children .. his children are now adults with children of their own .. still has contact but they suffered emotionally too much in their early years .. brothers & sisters ... I try to maintain contact with him by going places drink isn't available ... He wonders why when he phones family he can't always get through & ends up leaving a message ... it's because before we pick up we need to know if he's drunk, coherent ... & if he's going to have a conversation or is going to ramble & repeat himself .. If he's sober we'll phone him back ... If not we're not there.
My father is a miserable old alcoholic. Quite frankly I wish he'd hurry up and finish himself off.
Well Nailit - my two brothers are dying at the moment and drink has been responsible.
Nailit - if you think you have a bit of a problem. The easiest or easier thing to do is try and refrain for a whole month and then go from there. JJCon.
jj, for some people they have to start with 24 hours or even less. A month would be unimaginable.
You are probably right Woof but the month done the trick for me.

Thanks for replies guys. Drink certainly has a lot to answer for, ive lost several friends in the past to drink.
I ended up in a psychiatric hospital last year with severe depression and was drinking to cope with it, after recieving appropriate treatment and medication I left hospital and didnt drink for months. However recently Ive found myself drinking again, I hate myself at times for giving in to it again.
Don't beat yourself up. It's a hard struggle x
Question Author
Thanks ummmm, after leaving hospital I honestly thought id never drink again, didnt feel the need to. Am dissapointed in myself but trying to get back on the wagon again now.
I know someone who drinks but is in denial
There is nothing anyone can do to convince her she has a problem
It's very sad because at the moment her children could really do with her help
You managed it before, you can do it again. Be positive x
good luck nailit - if you done it once you can do it again.
