A job has come up locally as a pre-school manager. I am hugely tempted to apply for it but I have no early years experience although I am a fully qualified secondary teacher with years of Senior management experience. Too much of a leap or doable?

go for it you have nothing to lose
Go for it, sher - they can only say no!
Exactly ^^^
You've nothing to lose.
Certainly doable Sher.
Can't hurt to apply.
Absolutely go for it! If you can't handle it, who can? :-)
Go for it Sher, you have nothing to lose and you are more than capable. Good Luck. x
people only get jobs if they apply for them. Quite often i see people in better jobs than me doing a rubbish job of it and wonder how they got them and then realised it's because they applied
I would advise you brush up on your early years curriculum but apart from that, go for it! You have plenty of personal experience with younger kids anyway. Have the twins started school yet? I feel like I've not been on here for ages!!!
Sher you once made me really laugh by saying you'd rather stick wasps up your bottom than go back to teaching but this as a a manager. You're obviously academically qualified and have lots of personal experience with pre-schoolers! if you want to go back to work this sounds like an ideal job for you.
Very doable!! The very fact you are thinking of it shows you are keen !

You don't want to be sitting back in your rocking chair at 80yr old wishing... ;)
You have real-life experience from your children rearing; go for it & Good luck.

I reckon I could brush up on the early years bit - apparently it's more managing than being hands on with the children. (AND it's v local - I could walk in under 5 minutes.)
Sherr as others have said already, very doable ! Have a go for it .
Yes go for it, and reread your application twice before you send it to make sure you're haven't allowed any doubt to come through.

Mention anything that you have done voluntarily, in connection with your own children's early years to emphasise your experience with children of all ages.
I'm assuming you'll still need to make sure that the staff are implementing the curriculum properly as well though. Unless there's a staff supervisor or something. Is it a private nursery?
What does the job spec say? If you've got all the essential parts demonstratable in qualifications and/or experience and a decent amount of the desirable bits then I don't see why not.
Go for it Sherr!!!! And good luck too.. Xx

There is no job description or person specification. It just says experience essential, NVQ level 3 or above. It's run by the parish council but is not overly commercial but is hugely loved by local parents (some of whom went there themselves).
Meh... in that case apply and see what happens. I always think it's better to have a decision/choice to make rather than just sitting back and see what happens.
Nothing ventured .... and all that. They can only say 'yes' or 'no'. Go for it!
