Ive noticed recently that quite a few women i see who show their legs - quite often i see a red patch/rash on the side of the calf. Is there any reason for this?

It's probably good old-fashioned razor rash - skin is skin, and if you remove hair dromit with a razor, or a harsh depilatory cream, the result can be a red rash, that appplies to mens' faces, or womens' legs.
it could also be razor bumps or ingrown hairs - when hair has been shaved or waxed, doesn't grow out of the skin properly so it curls under the skin. this causes an imflammation in the follicle which creates a bump.
If she's been sitting with her legs crossed for a length of time, there may be a red patch in the place where her legs have been in contact (the same way you would get one on your face if you feel asleep with your hand under your face)
