Yepp! I think that you have made the diagnosis yourself. Difficult to know what you are allergic to, but Tabs Piriton 4mgms three times a day should sort you out.
Or go to the chemist and get one you only need to take once a day...like Cetirizine. Also might be worth trying 1% hydrocortizone until it has gone down a bit. Keep an eye on the rash. Shingles can start like this and follows the track of a nerve...so if it starts moving up the arm get to the docs. Most likely to be a reaction to something you are using to wash your hands by the sound of it, or a hand cream. Or have you recently changed your washing powder and only just used a towel to dry your hands?? Poor you, itching is so demoralizing.
Good alternatives by Anngel although shingles is unlikely....very unlikely as it tends to be painful and unilateral(one side of abdomen, one side of face....never known it to be bilateral.)
Hi Sqad. Yes, I know usually not bilateral. Just being cautious :)
Anngel....;-)
You could be very allergic to the watch strap/or the back of watch/ or jewellery you may wear - my friend was.

Thank you,
I did take one cetirizine hydrochloride 10mg, but it did not appear to have made much difference. Is piriton different? i took the centrizine last night, and it says " one daily" so can I take piriton now?

thank you.
\\\so can I take piriton now? \\\

Yes.
I would say if the cetirizine didn't help, why would the piriton. Try the hydrocortizone, you can also get it with a topical painkiller which stops that itching. Ask your pharmacist. That is what they are there for. It does sound nasty.

Hi,
Allergy still there. i thought it was aluminium ladder, but problem still there and been nowhere near ladder or aluminium. Its been on and off for several days, and attacked me in bed last night, this morning blotches on my chest, hands and arms, also itchy scalp. Piriton seems to work for an hour, then blotches return. We have not changed soap powder, so now at a loss to blame anything.
I am not doing anything that I usually don't do, I am not eating anything strange or new to my diet, I don't wear a watch, all shampoo's and soaps are the usual ones. Only different thing in my life is a new to me car. Can't imagine anything in the car could cause a problem, as this is a real attack, red blotches, itchyness and drowsyness.
Yesterday morning i awoke after a real bad nights sleep with a swollen bottom lip and blotches all over my chest, and itchy eyes. all susbsided after taking a piriton, so allergy seems to be the answer, but to what??? I always feel that prople that go to the doctors with an allergy and want a test are just people that are really not ill, but want something to talk about as it is not terminal etc; so feel a bit stupid if i go to the doctors.
. I am, as I type this, suffering with a feeling of things crawling over my face and around my eyes, and painful hands, which have large red blotches around the palms and wrist area. i have take two piriton today and saving the last for bedtime ( it says 3 a day). any one had similar, or any ideas??
Annie.
Have you applied 1% hydrocortisone, it will help with the piriton to calm it down. You can develop an allergy to anything at any time, which never helps in trying to pin it down.
I had something similar many years ago (and the doc gave me piriton). It took weeks for the blotches to go. I've never known what caused it - I had unusually eaten watermelon and I've never touched it since. Anyway in your case I would go to the GP definitely if you're getting swollen lips and itchy eyes. I also think you can develop allergies out of the blue to things that haven't bothered you before.
It could it be Urticaria - I had this a few years ago and was prescribed Zirtek, think you can buy over the counter now, similar to Piriton.

Hi all,
thanks for all the replies, I just thought i would say, in case anyone else has this problem, that it has continued no matter what, and went to the doc again few days ago, he told me to keep trying to eliminate stuff every day, but if not better in one m,onth, go and see him again. He did say that my last blood test showed that i was getting towards borderline diabetis, and to lose weight and avoid sugar, take exercise. I have stopped drinking coca cola ( I probably drank two cans a night) (( that was the only sugar containing article i consumed, i don't eat cakes, and no sugar in tea etc)) and the urticaria has stopped, and I feel alive again, after only a couple of days off of the coca cola. a mystery. BUT, the doc said this could go on for months, then get better, and the reason may never be known.
