Poppy allergy?

My partner has been gardening this week, in paricular near poppies and is now covered in a bright red rash all over his face and arms and his face is swollen. He saw a very elderly locum gp who mentioned photosynthesis but I thought humans werent affected by that. His face is especailly swollen around his eyes, the rash is only slightly itchy but very hot. Anyone got any ideas please?
