Woke up normally this morning and went about my normal routine, was getting dressed and something went ping right along the base of my back, almost as far down as my bum. It was like an instant burning pain and i was stuck in position. I managed to move, eventually, but the pain is unbeleivable. Ive taken some ibuprofen and come to work as normal. Im sitting on my office chair and i feel stuck! I cant bear the moment i need to move off this chair! Is there anything else i can do apart from let the ibuprofen kick in?

You must take enough Ibuprofen........600mgms in one go and then up to 6 hourly...same dose.
Something cold on the painful spot.......frozen peas for example........

Monitor the situation.

Sqad i took 400mgms straight away (about 40 mins ago) should i top up with abouther 200, or just see how i go on my original dose?
See how you go....if 400 mgms does the trick.......fine. If not take 600mgms at lunchtime.

thanks so much sqad!
The best piece of advice I got when my back did this was - when you do start to move again, try not to tense everything up. Easier said than done, but if you tense all your muscles, they'll start to hurt and you'll feel the pain of them as well as the original pain... Good luck X

thanks Misky, it sounds obvious, but its very difficult to do! It definately seems to be easing off, thank goodness as ive got 70 cupcakes and a birthday cake to make tonight! Standing baking with this back would be awful
When you get home, a long, very hot bath would also help. Muscles around the sore area will get very tense and then add to the pain so a hot soak will help relax them.
book in for some sort of physical (not physio) therapy. Try a Chiro or Osteopath, sooner the better. Then take it easy until everything settles down.

thanks everyone. Ive stuck with the ibuprofen and hot baths, it has been tough over the weekend but this morning is starting to feel much less painfull and stiff. If it comes back i'll have a visit to the doctors.
Doctors don't do body work. They will prescribe pills and rest. Please look at boking into some sort of physical therapy and avoid the brufen.
