I went to the chiropractor today for my first proper adjustment and she twisted my neck both ways making a loud cracking sound. Afterwards my neck was really sore and I could hardly turn my head. I complained to the receptionist and she got me back in for a bit of a neck pummel. All day I have felt really tired, which she said was likely to happen. Neck feels a lot easier now but at the time I was really concerned. Has this happened to you?

I have 2 slipped discs in my lower back. As a consequence of this I've been using a walking stick for almost 3 years.
After just a few treatments from my chiropractor I no longer need the stick.
Stick with it. It helped me.
neck cracking can be a bit alarming (she might have warned you), but it should loosen you up. It's mostly just nudging vertebrae a millimeter, even if it sounds like your neck's broken.
3 sessions with a chiropractor corrected a misalignement of my lumbar vertebrae that at times made almost any kind of movement agony for days at a time, that was 30 years ago, no problems since.
I've never seen a chiropractor but i've seen an osteopath - he cricked my neck (never again, it terrified me!) and also my hip, made things much better.
just to add, yes, the area that's been adjusted will initially be sore, as it's a bit of a shock to bones, muscles etc. But it shouldn't be anything that 600mg of iboprufen can't handle and you should be feeling fine by tomorrow.
You should stick to McTimoney chiropractors in future. They do much gentler chiropractic treatements than that.
In Bournemouth Dorset, we have the training colledge for Chiropractors and I went to them for about 4 months for a bad back and I still get very bad pain and I was charged over £30 each weekly visit So, I don`t think much of them.
I must admit I am dubious about Chiropractors and would rather see an osteopath any day. I have had a couple of bad experiences with Chiropractors. Osteopathy has been a great help to me over the years.

I've been a regular at my osteopath for years and years. Was away on a training course with a friend a few years back and had a terribly painful neck - was unable to turn my head to the right at all - another friend in the area recommended her chiropactor - this friend was a professional sportswoman and someone whose opinion I respected. I got an emrgency appointment and after twenty minutes walked out of the surgery without any pain whatsoever, fully able to move my head normally. Would add that I think it's particularly important to find a really good chiropractor and to fully discuss treatment beforehand.
