Alligators

How fast can an alligator run on land? I have seen various from 8-10mph to much higher.
What is the most accurate answer to this? Many thanks.

Maybe 10-12mph max but i would not like to test out that theory ! Keep well clear....

actually if you stop, turn round face the alligator put your hand out and shout stop in a firm manner, you prob get eaten

Jump on its back and stick your thumbs in its eyes. It works on fluffs so I don't see why it wouldn't work on anything else...

Thank you all for your efforts. I saw some on a farm in Australia but they were safely in the water and I was watching them from a lorry being fed whole chickens!
I needed the answer for a quiz so I`m still in the dark, better than being in a alligator though!

If confronted by a alligator or crocodile, do the same as you would a tiger, wait until it opens his mouth wide to bite you, then quickly put your hand right down its throat, catch hold its tail and pull hard and it will turn inside out, simples :--)

Not sure about alligators but 30mph for fresh water crocs is certainly not an overstatement. They actually sort of gallop when in a hurry.
