My son lifts bottle crates as part of his work, and suffers pain on inside of elbows. Any thoughts on a remedy to ease the pain besides pain killers, please.

What did his GP recommend...?
Question Author
g'mornin Mark. He wont go to his GP as he doesn't want his boss to know 'cause its an important part of the job.
Er...that makes no sense at all? Doctor / patient confidentiality...
Question Author
Its a busy time at work & he can't risk time off. He can delegate but wants to be seen to be working as normal.
Question Author
I will tell him about the confidentiality tho'. He's taking me to a Carol Concert 2moro, like the Westminster Boys - am so excited, can't wait.

What had you got in mind other than pain killers to relieve pain?
lifting differently?
not lifting?
if the elbow pain is cause by lifting, the only remedies wouls either be to stop lifting or to take pain killers. Is the pain all the time or just when he is lifting the crates?
I lifted crates for years and years and it never caused me pain...
If your son has people working for him and they are lifting like he does, they may also be getting pain. i know he doesn't want to make waves, and I know that folk will groan but this is the kind of circ where the job needs to be health and safety assessed.
If you're doing heavy lifting or any heavy job with the same repeated movements, make sure you keep yourself well hydrated if not it's tennis elbow or sciatica which kicks in. If it has already set in, a visit to a good osteopath will put it right.
coccinelle is correct, but wrong side of the elbow;-) it is known as "Golfer´s elbow" or ulnar epicondylitis.

It will not improve without medical care which will invariably include pain killers.

What has he got against "painkillers?"
He needs to see his GP and let his work know - working through an injury will only make it worse in the long run. Workplaces have an obligation to operate safe working practices and to provide suitable equipment and training for employees NOT to be injuried by working practices.

ummm = superwoman - lol

I was thinking along the lines of freezing to dull pain. Are pain killers addictive ?
Pain is the body's way of telling you that something is wrong, like a cut or a broken bone. Suppressing that pain does not fix the problem. There could be any number of reasons for your son's pain, and he needs to be examined by a trained medical professional who can make an informed diagnosis...

thanx Mark, he has in the past been prescibed sprays & injections, has rested it etc. I s'pose he'll have to live with a recurring frailty.
Mark....with that description......I can´t think of more than one.

jaydah.......you didnt say that he had had injections....then it looks like a recurring problem.

Are pain killers addictive?.......depends which ones......NSAID´s which is what he needs are not addictive e.g Ibuprofen.
Question Author
sqad he had the treatment 2y ago. He's sporty, skis/rows & that doesn't help but that's aside as the job is more important to pay for the leisure. It's just a strange place to suffer pain ?
jaydah....it is not that uncommon place t have the pain seeing that he is also a rower and a skier.........he may need another steroid injection seeing that the last injection was 2years ago.
