If i had the money i would love to get my crooked teeth straightened. (middle two on the lower set). I asked my dentist and he baffled me as to what options are available but did say it would cost thousands. Daren't ask him again as he will think i'm stupid. They have gone exactly the same as my dads so maybe its genetic. Im 42.....is it too late to have a brace fitted? The other way ive seen on tv iiiis where they file the tooth down to a stump then put a tooth over the top???????

it's never too late for a brace but it's a slow process, and you'll be wearing a retainer to keep them in place once the brace is off.

you mean individual false teeth? seems a bit drastic for lower teeth. are you sure you don't notice it more than anyone else would?
Do you mean a crown ? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crown_(dentistry)
They're OK.
Not difficult to have done and permanent. My one cost just over £100.

thanks for replies. They are really crooked...they bleed and its extremely difficult to floss between them which makes self conscious about my breath. Think maybe it is a crown that i need but baffled that my dentist told me it would cost thousands?
I think I would get a second opinion.
Is your dentist NHS ?
Mine was, maybe that's why my treatment cost what it did .
Your dentist was probably referring to veneers. http://en.wikipedia.o...ki/Veneer_(dentistry)

They do cost thousands, I think; depending on how many you have, obviously.
Ask your dentist what other options are available and if he won't tell you get a second opinion. Veneers aren't the only answer and cosmetic dentistry needn't be as expensive as some dentists make out.
I had similar problems with my lower front teeth. One was practically behind the other and the front one looked like it might pop out the front of my gum eventually. It was impossible to floss and the gums often bled.

Depending on the exact nature of your problem, different options are open to you. Once I saw my x rays there was a lot more going wrong with the orientation of my teeth under the gums, so it was just going to get worse. My course of treatment was to have a mixture of train track braces, a removable brace, removable retainers and a permanent retainer to keep it all in place once it's finished. I'll be paying about £6000 over two years all in all. Because its cosmetic, you can't have it done on the NHS, so as its done privately thats why the cost is so high.

Only 1 year into my plan I can really see the difference its making and my teeth and gums are so much healthier now. Ask for an initial consultation with the orthodontist and see what they recommend for you.

wow thats a lot of money! unless i win the lottery i couldn't possibly afford that...but i hope everything goes fantastic for you xx thanks
Don't know what you are worried about - some crooked teeth can be quite attractive. Have you ever seen the comedian Russell Howard (I think I've got his name right). He is very handsome and his teeth are all crooked. He has obviously come to terms with it because he laughs a lot, and that is how it should be. In fact it adds to his attraction.
Why would you want to replace you natural teeth with false ones? If they are a bit crooked so what, they are yours, real teeth and healthy!
A friend of mine in her mid-40s has just had dental work done in Poland. It was going to cost her £13,000 here and she had it all done there for less than half. She had VERY prominent teeth. They now look fantastic. It did involve a few trips to Poland though.

convinced these crooked teeth make my breath smell because i struggle to floss....and they bleed too! Thanks for all the replies and for the time time being i will just have to live with it or them. julie
bleeding gums = not good. Are the teeth loose ?
Get your teeth cleaned at the dentist, that'd help. Bloody gums, scurvy? Increase your Vitamin C intake or eat more fruits.
Question Author
no they not loose but the gums look quite inflamed sometimes. My dentist has put a piece of white filling to sort of fill the tooth that is pushed back so that the gap is less obvious
rinse/gargle in salted water to cleanse the gum, see dentist
Question Author
thanks jaydah but ive tried lots of products, corsidyl probably the most effective but it can stain the teeth. I was at the dentist lastweek and he,s not concerned about my crooked teeth and bleeding gums.
Try brushing with baking soda.
Stop the flossing & brush teeth gently, rinse in salted water to cure the gums.
Move to Scotland, find a local NHS dentist who'll refer you to an NHS orthodontist, job done! Very few Scottish dentists are looking to retire on the fees of one patient.
We northeners reailse that prevention is at least as good as if not better than cure.
