Would having "a borderline underactive thyroid" cause weight gain and prevent you from shifting it? I eat reasonably sensibly, don't have an eating problem and keep my sweet tooth under control, and take regular exercise. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia last year, but still walk as much as possible and now do Pilates.

I have a borderline hypothyroid disorder. However my gp will nopt treatme as I am "only just under" although I am exhausted with dry skin and hair and overweight. It is recognised that here in the UK we are not good at diagnosing or treating this disorder.

Some Gp's are &*(%$!! If you can't get the help you need then if you can, change your GP!!
My mother has an underactive thyroid and was diagnosed as such when I was lad many years ago, she is now 65 but looks much, much younger. She is  certainly not overweight (although she is on medication for the condition). Keep up the exercise and do not worry unduly.

yes it would, because it is your thyroid that controls your metabolism. an overactibe thyroid butrn too much fat, an underactive thyroid burns too little.
