Sore neck

I have this constant pain(3 weeks) in the angle of the jaw--just behind the ear. Left side more painful than the right. It is like the pain you get when blowing up balloons. Wonder if a trip to the docs is warrented as it is not agony but constant. Tried a heat rub to no avail.
Any advice given --grateful

Does it swell or get more painful when you eat?
Have you had an infection on the face or head?

It is just as I said nothing other than the pain.

OK...Ibuprofen 600mgms twice daily and monitor the situation.

As carmalee has suggested, it could have a dental origin.
