Hi,

I am going on honeymoon to Tenerife on 04th September and have never really been abroad before. I was just wondering where I could get the best deal at the moment for purchasing euros?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

sterling is accepted on the reef......change your money there if necessary, better rates.
You will need to take some euros with you. Look at M&S, the Post Office, Thomas Cook for the best rates.
Be very wary of buying euros in Tenerife, often the quoted rate is for very large amounts of money, not just a few hundred pounds.
I find I get the best rates when I use my debit card to withdraw cash and my credit card to pay for goods. I'm with the Nationwide and there are no charges, it may not be the case for you.
The euro/gbp rate has been very poor but is getting a little better. I'd advise you to wait a few weeks.
If you have the 'right' debit and credit cards, buy £100 of euros before you go and use your cards when you get there. NEVER use your credit card to withdraw cash.
When looking around at rates check whether you will be charged commission or not, as often the places with the better rates charge you commission so you can be worse off than going to somewhere with a worse rate but commission free.
Thos Cook guarantees the best rate available at the time you purchase foreign currency (well it does in Dundee) but pay by cash - I made the mistake of paying by debit card thinking there wouldn't be a charge - and they took £5. Apparently this is standard practice by all travel agents.
When I went abroad in March i went to the Co-op for our euros, at the time it was the best deal.

Well it's not - because it's your bank that charged this, not Thos Cook.

And not all banks do it - about half of those issuing visa debit cards do, the rest don't.
see Dave down the pub he's always got some
Google CITY FOREX ...
Hi dzug2 thanks for that bit of info. I just presumed (wrongly) that it had been Thos Cook. Anyway, I won't be making that mistake again.
Buried on this page http://www.moneysavin...el/cheap-travel-money there's a link that says who charges and who doesn't - unfortunately you can't link directly to it and it can be a devil to find

It's in getting the cheapest foreign cash section
