Small red blood cells

Hi

I had some blood tests done at my gp and it showed I has an underactive thyroid which my doctor has put me on treatment for. The nurse from my surgery rung today and said I had small red blood cells and the doctor wants to see me mon anyone any idea what could cause this?

Small red cells........microcytosis.............no big deal .......almost always associated with iron deficiency anaemia.
