Can anyone suggest something for extremely brittle nails. I have tried all the strengtheners going but nothing seems to work. It's got to the stage whereby my nails as so far down it's like I'm constantly chewing them which isn't the case. I'm told it's part and parcel of the underactive thyroid I have but just wondered if there was any tips you can give me.

One of the suggestions is to rub in vaseline regularly
I buy a hair supplement which also encourages nail growth

my nails are very brittle (unlike my mum's who could turn screws with hers!). Sally Hanson Hards as Nails helps a bit, if I am going out I have to resort to false nails..
What a great article! Working as a cook-my nails take a beating. Even with using hardeners, they will grow nicely for a bit-then split and break. I will definitely try the Vaseline.
Pasta - vaseline is also good for your eyelashes dabbed on at night. Makes them grow longer and silkier.

Thanks for the advice - I'll try the vaseline. What a good article
I had the same problem I have my nails done with Bio Sculpture they are great now
supplement and regular filing - sounds wierd, but if you are cutiing your nails or not filing them regularly they can remain brittle regardless of what you put on them. also try not to get them wet for any length of time e.g in the bath or washing up. my nails used to bend round my fingers, but now they are rock hard!
My nails have always been strong and used to break very low down at the sides. I have just discovered a cure -- I eat a lot of almonds morning and night - at least half a dozen twice a day and yummy they are too ! After around six months, my nails don't break any more and everyone thinks they are false. They keep catching on the wrong keys as I type ! I am so proud of them, sad aren't I ? But you must try it. Plenty of baby oil on the cuticles as well if you are going to use varnish all the time.
Sorry what I should have said is, my nails are very strong and don't bend, but were also very brittle, and the slightest knock would leave a break very low down. Hope that makes more sense.
One of the best suggestion is you just trim brittle nails after a bath or moisturized it perfectly. To know more tips and ideas for brittle nails visit at http://www.free-makeu...odycare/beau-line.htm
Hi, just saw you question! Vitamin C tablets, really cheap from Holland & Barrett, also Sally Hanson Nail Hardener, two coats, twice a week. Give it a few weeks and you WILL see a difference!
