optical glass co fitted lenses that i cant see out of - can i get refund?
hiya im hoping someone can help me having had a horrid day
ive had my eyes tested at an optitions and was told i need glasses again (not had to wear them for 3 years but wore them before for 23 years) i need them for tv, computers and reading.
i sent frames to optical glass co who made glasses up for me at half the price and speed of the optitions!!! yippee i thought, until today that is.
i went to collect my specs and the lady i saw on saturday wasnt there, another woman gave me my specs and asked me to read from a magazine, there was a marginal improvement (~i do mean marginal) however it looked like i was looking out of mucky glass so i ceaned them and she said there is some dust so she cleaned them. i said they look like grubby plastic like when you look out of a planes window (you can see but its fuzztish and scratched). ishe said it was because i was looking up and not reading they are not for distance.
i daid im long sighted and that i need them for tv and pc use but this wont work asis.
she said i never informed them of this, how she came up with this i dont know as ive never spoken to her before and i did say to the original womamn.
the glass cutter/fitter owner came out and looked at my prescription and said his work is top notch and he has workef to the prescription. i dont doubt his work integrety but i cannot use these glasses as cannot see properly in them and when i got home attempted to read, they gave me a migrane.
where do i stand re a refund? he said im not entitlef to one and to go back to prescribing optition... i cant afford more lenses having paid for these... help me with any advice you can... please?????

You get what you pay for - so if you paid peanuts you are very likely to have plastic lens. Nothing wrong with that but they are cheap (and do scratch more easily). But they shouldn't start out like that.
You won't be able to see long distances properly in them - if that's what you were doing - they are for reading use only.

My brother had this problem as well. In the end he went to trading standards.
If he made them to the prescription that was written then the person who wrote it was wrong. Did you get the glasses at the same place as the eye test?. If so go back and demand another eye test (or go to another palce)to confirm the prescription. If it is the same then he is wrong.

i had my eye test at an optitions but got the glasses from a lense supplier.
unfortunately they wont give me a refund as they say the lenses are fine.
i dont need them for distance as i am long sighted. i have 1 eye at 1.25 and other at 1.50 so cant buy reading glasses in chemists etc but didnt want to pay silly money for glasses just to watch tv, read and work on pc.
all of which are few and far between activitys for me but when i do i get headaches.
the optition says that they can offer me a retest but there is no point now as i cannot afford to get new lenses and feel ripped off completely but have no idea what to do or where to turn as i now have no glasses and no money (also i didnt pay peanuts just less than the optitions as a disabled person i cant afford optitions prices)

Take the glasses/lenses to an optitions (asda are cheap enough, £15) and ask them to check your eyes against the lenses (any decent lense manufacturers should have the prescription etched into the glass). If the prescription of the lenses are incorrect then the optitions (such as asda) will write, and post a 'personal' letter to the company that produced them, at which point they are lawfully required by the Sale of Goods Act 1979 to refund or replace them. I would also demand that they cover the cost of the independent optical examination (such as asda optitions).
