for the last few months i have suffered from an unusual problem. i smell smoke/burning for no obvious reason and when this happens my eyes are irritated as if the smoke is real.there is no set pattern at to when and how often it happens, but it usually is every day on several occasions.i have been to doctor who sent me for scan on my sinuses but that came back clear. i feel the problem is getting worse, has anyone any idea what the problem could be?

ive no idea really, but i know if it was me i would be thinking epilepsy or brain tumour. i DO have a very active imagination though, and i am a bit of a hypochondriac. but i would defo go back to the doc and tell him what i was thinking.
By goodness mandimoo, you certainly go for the jugular.
whas.....sinus scans normal rules out an infective process.
mandimoo is correct, but epilepsy and brain tumours are an exceedingly rare cause of you symptoms. Do you smoke? Why not ask your GP to send you to an ENT surgeon to rule out a local cause?
i was ok till i got a medical dictionary, now i have every ailment in the book! ;o)
whas........try Googling ....DYSOSMIA.
