feeling sick to get on trains

everytime i think about going on a train, i will get to the train station then wont get on the train because i feel that if i do i will be sick. im sure its just nerves. does anyone have any tips that can help me because i have to catch a train tomorrow and im really petrified about it. HELP!!

I know exactly how you feel,I have the same fear of trains,I can't travel by train at all and if going on long journeys I get a coach instead.
Sorry I can't help you with a coping strategy :-(
You could try some rescue remedy or something before getting there, or Kalms tablets. These don't work for everyone (eg they don't work for me) but they do for some people so it may be worth a go.

After that, how about some meditation or yoga a couple of times a week to teach your body to relax a bit?

I hate travelling full stop!! When I have to travel by train I sit facing the direction of travel. I use Kalms and find they work - but I take about 4 or 5 on leaving home and carry them with me!! A book can help - or magazine. If I am travelling with someone I find it easier if they talk to me alot and get me to answer them!!
Try not to focus on the sound of the engine etc and reason with yourself - take deep breaths.

Hi itsmee. I have been travelling on trains to work for 18 years now, and I went through a phase, not of being scared of the train, but panicking at the thought of "what if I am sick on the train? What will people think?" That thought process would have the effect of making me feel sick or faint, which of course, heightened the risk. A couple of times I would be standing in the train, unable to get off, and having to endure this panic attack. It would usually end with me breaking out into a cold sweat, after which I felt normal.

I didn't take anything for this, neither did I see a doctor, but I am sure it was just psychosomatic. It went away, funnily enough, after I got married and settled down, so maybe the panic attacks were really a symptom of unease in my personal life.

Try taking your mind completely off the journey by reading a good book. Remember, hundreds of thousands of people travel by rail every day without feeling sick - think to yourself "why should I be an exception?"
