painful nipple :-(

When I move about in bed I can feel a bit of a pain behind the nipple area as if it is deep inside my boob. I can't feel any lumps or thickening. Any idea what it could be ?

Is it in just the one or both? Both could be hormonal (related to your cycle or pregnancy/milk glands) or caused by exersion or even a cyst or infection.

Not sure how big you are but I know mine can get sore with exercise, if I lie on my front etc... as they're quite big.

Anything out of the ordinary, lumps, pain, thickening, changes to the skin, bleeding or weeping etc... should be checked out and I'm a great believer in getting your breasts regularly checked and shown how to do it properly so will be good for that as well.

I've had two big scares with lumps but turned out to be a harmless fibrous adenoma as many lumps and such are though always better to check so you can put your mind at rest.

go to the doc's, just to put your mind at ease. it's probably nothing but it needs checking out :o)

Thanks both of you. I forgot to say, I have had a full hysterectomy so I don't have periods. I am a big lass with big boobies and I'm wondering if I maybe laid on them during the night cos I do toss and turn a lot in my sleep. I have thoroughly examined them and can find nothing. I'll give it a few more days before making an appointment.

Could it be a muscular pain Jillius? Have you been doing any different sort of exercise or carrying anything heavy. The pain might not be anything to do with your boob, but just referred pain.

lol Myriad !! I was worried for a minute cos I thought you were female ! ( not sure why )
LoftyLottie, I can't think that I have done anything different to normal. It actually feels like when you breast feed with sore nipples, even though my nipple itself isn't sore, if that makes sense !

Probably wise to just see your GP or practice nurse if it still hurts in a couple of days - it might be just an infected gland and need some antibiotics.

I had a wierdly painful bit behind the nipple the other day though I'd been feeling really crap for days. hormonal and knackered and time of the month like (on contraceptive injection so don't get periods, just time of the month!) so put it down to that.

If it lasts more than a couple of days get it checked out just to put your mind at rest.

Even with my scares the staff at the breast units I was sent to for further checks were fantastic and made the whole scares less scarier :)
