I have been going to the gym much more frequently recently and I have noticed that my joints seem to be clicking more than often. Is this because I am getting older or because of the gym?

When I started going to the gym about 2 years ago my knee started to click. The Doc sent me for an xray but nothing showed up so its possibly cartlidge damage. He said if it doesnt hurt ignore it.
I have similar problems with the vertabrae in my neck. It has turned out to be cartilage damage which is not likely to show up on an xray. Try and get your doc to refer you to see an orthapaedic consultant. GP's won't do anything until pain develops when it could be now that you can take action to prevent things getting worse. Just a layman's advise but I do speak from experience.
I have had similar experience. I was told by physio it is only gas bubbles that build up around joints bursting on sudden movement and quiet harmless
