My doctor said I have high IgA levels which she never asked for, she asked for an EMA blood test and those results were fine except the the high IgA, She is not sure what that means and is having to ask the labs and her collegues what the next step is, Anyone else got any ideas?

IgA antibodies are found in areas of the body such the nose, breathing passages, digestive tract, ears, eyes, and vagina. IgA antibodies protect body surfaces that are exposed to outside foreign substances. This type of antibody is also found in saliva and tears. About 10% to 15% of the antibodies present in the body are IgA antibodies. A small number of people do not make IgA antibodies. High levels of IgA may mean monoclonal gammopathy of unknown significance (MGUS) or multiple myeloma is present. Levels of IgA also get higher in some autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and in liver diseases, such as cirrhosis and long-term (chronic) hepatitis.
Hope this helps
Excellent answer by missrandom, but i would add that ask your GP to repeat the tests as often the results return normal levels of IgA. Also you did not mention how high they were as quite possibly they may well be "within normal limits. If you are in good health, then I would suggest that your IgA results may well be "rogue" readings.
