Have had a tight chest for a few weeks now, not painful just a tight drafty feeling and keep catching my breath when talking and it makes me cough.

Doc put me on inhalers but they dont see to work. I have to go back tomorrow and more and likely go for a chest xray. I'm 34 years old and no other symptoms.

Any ideas?

Is it both sides of your chest? does it hurt more when you inhale or exhale or is it the same?
Question Author
It doesnt hurt at all, just like an uncomfortable air tight feeling if that makes sense? and it seems to be central between the breast bone,
Like trapped wind?
have you work near asbestos? Sound like pleural plaques to me.

hope helps
Question Author
No. Im really baffled. Actually getting a bit fluey symptoms now, I was speaking to a work colleque and become uncomfortably hot and sweaty, but once sat back in my chair I'm normal.
At first I thought it sounded like pneumonia but if there is no pain or flu like symptoms then it may just be indigestion.
Please ensure you see your doctor and get it sorted.
Good luck
Question Author
It is def not indigestion, its an air tight breathlessness when I talk. Ive had it for 3-4 weeks now.

Its not pneumonia, as the doc listened to my chest and it was clear.

At least you are going to the doctors. If you get any more breathlessness, get some help as quickly as you can. Is it difficult to exhale, ie is that what makes you cough? If this is all down to asthma, your airways can shut so quickly. My asthma came back with a vengeance last summer and I have been on and off steroids all year. I need atrovent to keep my airways open as well.

There are all sorts of things that cause these symptoms though. I had atupical pneumonia in my late teens and this took weeks to present with full symptoms.

the possibilities are endless. Sure you'll be fine though.
Question Author
Dont work near asbestos that I know off, and its not difficult to exhale, only when Im speaking does it catch me more (although it does happen when not speaking just not as much).

I'm sorry folks, it seems everything you suggest I come up with a dead end, but its just weird for me, and I'm worried.
Silly question
Do you smoke?
Question Author
No, never have done.
Does it get worse as the day goes on or is the the same constant, does it get worse when you go to bed for instance?
-- answer removed --
Question Author
Its consistent during the day, but I sleep soundly at night. I have thought of a good way to describe it. (if your as unfit as me you will understand). When youve run in cold weather for a while, and it hits you in the chest and when you talk and breath for a short time after it it makes you cough, or is that just me?
No, sorry, can't help any further, as goodsoulette said, I'm sure the doctor will give you a good examination and get to the bottom of whatever it is, and, whatever it is you'll be fine

I'm sure mr bean is really cheering you up lol !!
Hi Teasy

I have had the exact same symptons for about 2 weeks now, i have 2 gasp for a breath but it only happens in places like on the train or bus! and where u said u get a cough after running in cold weather i used 2 get the exact same thing in cross country when i was at school. If the breathlessness carries on for another week i'm going to make an appointment at the docs as i think my asthma may have come back! good luck at the docs and let me know how u get on!! x
Where has mr bean's remark gone ? He said it sounded like HIV and I replied and now his remark has gone !!
