The Doc's put me on a 7 day course of 500mg Amoxycilin antibiotics for a sinus infection, and they've made me feel totally spaced out. I spoke to a nurse and she told me to continue taking them, and that on a doseage so high you sometimes have to feel worse to feel better... has this happened to anyone else, or am I just overdosing ?!

How many times a day are you taking 500mg?

A usual prescription for an adult is 1500 mg per day - so if you are taking it three times a day this is not an unusual dose.

It is a very common drug and is safe - it is routinely prescribed to babies over 3 months for ear infections and so on (in a much lower dose of course).
As Ethel says, Amoxycillin is well tolerated... only caveat is, as usual, that the patient has no allergies to penicillin. If you're taking it for sinusitis it's most likely the effects of the infection that's causing this discomfort...
Sinusitis can produce feeling sof imbalance and dizziness as well as the probably familiar pain in the face and other sinus cavities. Be sure to take the entire course! Best of luck!
Im the amoxycilin master!! Ive taken it so many times and yes it does make you spaced out!! Ive had loads of severe chest infections throughout my life and this is the antibiotic that they always give me!! Ive also had it for sinusitis!! the pain of sinusitis is HORRIBLE!!!! So i can understand how your feeling!! take care.
By the way Yes Clanad is right you MUST take the whole course and dont drink alcohol on them cos it stops them from working!! take care!!
Ethel I remember the amoxycilin that is given to babies adn small children!! It reminds me of my childhood!! It yellow and tastes a bit like banana!! A taste i will never forget!!
I've had the same dosage of Amoxycillin, but have never felt any effect like you describe. As Clanad says, it may be the effect of the sinusitis, but if it persists or gets worse perhaps see the doc again.
