I am thinking about working abroad later this year - Sept, Oct, Nov, Dec)

I would ideally like to work in New Zealand or South Africa. Does anyone know the best way to do this and what sort of budget I would require?

Hi - I'm not too sure, but I would imagine that S.Africa might be the most affordable in terms of your budget - as there is a great exchange rate. However, it is worth considering the safety aspect of S.Africa.

I have been to both countries in the last two years. Capetown in Nov. and the whole of the South Island with a two week stop in Christchurch during the DEC. Jan period. There is no comparison for how far you could make a budget stretch to attain a quality experience...SA and Capetown inparticular would be my destination of choice.Night time safety would be a major consideration, you would need a local buddy to tell you the do s and dont's as soon as you arrive.Food is also worlds apart it is much more cosmopolitan, a higher quality and loads cheaper (even in touristy places) in Capetown.I am not vegetarian, but was surprised by exactly how much meat constitutes a portion ....I ordered a kebab, and would have to describe what arrived as four steaks on a skewer with vegetables to die for and a bill of under a tenner. This is approximately what I was charged for a horrible sarnie and a coke in a nz upmarket(ish) cafe. In nz we had one remarkable meal in a month, in SA we had one ordinary meal in twenty sittings.
