While it is a well-know fact that inability to maintain eye contact signals lack of trust and confidence, what does a weak, limp handshake say about someone?

A person of weak character, superficial, and possibly someone who wouldn't think twice about letting you down.Could be fickle too.I am sure someone with such a handshake must have some good points somewhere along the line but I don't think I would be encouraged to look for them!

possibly weak wrists. Possibly just busy: politicians out canvassing often have to shake lots of hands and will do so fairly cursorily for fear of putting their shoulders out through sheer overwork. Sooner that than someone who tries to crush your hands to show masculinity, if you ask me.

Someone who is shy and has low self-esteem?

Nothing significant.
Inability to maintain eye contact can also mean that that person is slightly hard of hearing (like me). I find that I watch peoples lips so I can tell what they're saying, if I maintain eye contact I often miss part of what they're saying.
gay probably

as an artist who looks at every little detail of whatever i am in front of, perhaps this could be seen as and 'inability to maintain eye contact' but it it has nothing to do with lack trust or confidence.

these 'theories' are exactly that - theories! they are not fact and people shouldn't be judged on something so simple that takes no other factors into account.

it is very flawed reasoning

Many years ago my History teachers limp handshake got me off a boll*cking from my dad, as he came back from the parent teacher meeting having been told that I talked all the way through class, I didn't try hard enough blah blah... My dad decided that the man's handshake was so much like a (and I quote) wet fish, that he didn't take stock of anything he said!!

Thing is, he wasn't such a bad bloke, he was confident, well in front of a class of 15 year olds he was, he came across as trustworthy to us, he just had a crappy handshake .... mind you he was a labour supporter ... ;o)
