I find it very sad that they can't sing along to carols and hymns. I still remember them all from morning assemblies at school. Of course they haven't done this for a long time, even though we are a Christian country we have had to abandon it all in the name of "diversity ". A shame.

It's the same with young children who don't know nursery rhymes but are often au fait with the Top Ten, or whatever it's called these days. Parents can't be bothered to sing with them if it means putting their phone down.
They still sing some of the classics but they sing new songs too now.
Never a truer word said, dave. School carol concerts were lovely, as was the Salvation Army band coming round the streets to play right in front of the house. The ladies in the poke bonnets would have the collecting tins, mum used to bake fresh mince pies and have jugs of steaming hot cocoa for them. The neighbours came out onto the street to sing the carols. Those were the days.
Are you a Christian, Dave?
If school isn't doing it, then it's easy to do yourself as a family.

All mine know them but they do attend RC Schools.
what is wrong with old people nowadays?
they cant do the latest beyonce routine
and I have never been able to waggle my bottom like Marilyn Monroe in Some like it hot - and it is only a few years to its centenary!

down the platform - waa wwaaaaa
that aint jam because jello dont wobble like that !
Peter, you know what they say: nostalgia aint what it used to be ;)
it's bad enough that I sound like my grandmother, PP, without you sounding like my granddaughter.

However, with church attendance seeming to be about 3 million people a week, you can't really call Britain a Christian country, not with a straight face.

Kids just don't care about carols nowadays. Nothing whatsoever to do with diversity, no matter how much you try to twist things to fit your own tired narrative.
even though we are a Christian country we have had to abandon it all in the name of "diversity ". A shame.

Had to?
no, nothing to do with diversity: with church attendances that tiny it's clearly the kids' parents, and even grandparents, who have abandoned the various churches, and have been doing it for years.

Sunday schools used to be an arrangement so parents could get in a bit of nookie, but even that doesn't seem to be necessary any more.
People seem to want to opt out on the one hand but let someone else do their job when they can't be bothered themselves.
I can still remember the words of the Christmas carols that we sang back in my schooldays.

For example:
"We three kings of orient are,
One in a bus and one in a car,
One on a scooter,
Honking his hooter,
Not going very far"

Similarly, I remember the words of non-religious Christmas songs, such as:
"Jingle bells,
Batman smells,
Robins run away.
Its no fun,
When the smelly bum,
Keeps farting every day."

;-)
I think it's very sad. There is so much history and tradition in carols. Schools are too concerned with being modern and lose the basis from which so much comes. :( .
^^ Did you know that King Wenceslas was murdered by his evil brother?
Ding Dong merrily on high
in heaven they've all gone crazy
I can't sing that High
because I'm too damn lazy
Chris our version was:

We four kings of Liverpool are
George in a taxi, Paul in a car
John on a scooter
Bibbing his hooter
Following Ringo Starr
I'm 29 years old and I know a few Christmas carols and songs.
And who can forget

While shepherds washed their socks by night
All seated round the tub
The Angel of the Lord came down
And they began to scrub
Jourdain I've always wondered why the yonder peasant was gathering winter fuel a good league hence from where he lived when he lived right against the forest fence?
